Entry profile

For this Doctoral Programme, the recommended entry profile corresponds to graduates in Telecommunications Engineering who hold a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Signal Theory and Communications, Telematics Engineering, Radio Communications and Electromagnetic Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Vision, Quantum Information Science and Technologies, Internet of Things, or Extended Reality from the Universidade de Vigo.

For students with national or foreign master's degrees related to Information and Communication Technologies, their affinity will be studied by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme (CAPD). The competencies of the official Spanish Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering will be taken as a reference. In these cases, the CAPD may make admission conditional on the completion of specific additional training, which will be established in each case within the range of master's degrees offered by the University of Vigo in the field of ICT.

Given that some activities will be taught in English, proof of language proficiency in this language (B1) through a certificate from the ‘Centro de Linguas’ or equivalent is a requirement for admission. Those who are native speakers of a country where English is one of the official languages or those who can prove that they have previously completed a degree (bachelor's or master's) in which English was the language of instruction are exempt from this requirement. If this proficiency cannot be demonstrated, the Academic Committee may substitute this requirement with others that ensure that English proficiency will be achieved within the first year.

At the time of applying for admission, a preliminary thesis proposal related to one of the lines of research that make up the doctoral programme must be submitted. This preliminary proposal must be endorsed by a doctor from the DocTIC programme. To this end, applicants will be given the opportunity to contact the programme's teaching staff.

Those wishing to enrol on this Doctoral Programme must submit their application in accordance with the admission and enrolment regulations approved by the Doctoral Programme Academic Committee for each academic year, which in turn complies with the regulations established by the University of Vigo. To this end, students must meet the established requirements and provide the necessary supporting documentation.

Admission criteria

The CAPD will assess applications for admission to the doctoral programme based on the following criteria:

  • Knowledge of English. Given that some activities will be taught in English, proof of linguistic competence in this language (B1) through a certificate from the ‘Centro de Linguas’ or equivalent is a requirement for admission.
  • Previous studies (15%). Degrees considered to be fully related are Telecommunications Engineering or master's degrees in Telecommunications Engineering, Signal Theory and Communications, Telematics Engineering, Radio Communications and Electromagnetic Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Vision, Quantum Information Science and Technology, and the Internet of Things from the University of Vigo. For students with other master's degrees related to Information and Communications Technology and for foreign degrees with content related to the doctorate, the treatment will be similar, i.e., their relevance will be assessed. In these cases, the Academic Committee may require candidates to pass specific supplementary training courses, which will be established in each case within the teaching offer of the aforementioned master's degrees.
  • Academic record (10%).
  • Previous research experience in the field of the doctorate (5%).
  • Professional experience in the field of the doctorate (5%).
  • Preliminary thesis proposal endorsed by a researcher from the programme indicating (i) the potential viability of the future thesis within the framework of a line of research of the programme and (ii) that they can act as supervisor if they meet the necessary requirements (60%).
  • Personal interview (5%): if deemed necessary.

To pass the admission process for the doctoral programme, a minimum percentage of 60% must be achieved.

In any case, admission will be restricted to the number of places set for the Doctoral Programme, within the framework determined by the relevant higher-level provisions.
