Summary of the information required for enrolment for the academic year 2023-24

Requirements for access to PhD studies in Spain

According to  Royal Decrees 99/2011 and 576/2023:

In general, to gain access to an official PhD programme the candidate must hold a Spanish degree or equivalent and a Master's degree, summing at least 300 ECTS.

Access may be granted where the following cases apply:

  1. Hold an official Spanish university degree or equivalent Spanish degree, provided that at least  300 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) have been passed and  accredit a level 3 of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education.
  2. Hold a titleobtained in accordance with foreign educational systems belonging to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)  which accredits a level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework, provided that said title authorizes access to PhD studies in the issuing country.
  3. Hold a title obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems outside the EHEA, without the need for official homologation, after verification by the university that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish Master's degree and that it authorizes in the country of issuance of the title for access to doctoral studies. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party or its recognition for purposes other than access to doctoral studies.
  4. Hold another PhD title.
  5. University graduates who, after obtaining a training position in the exam for specialized health training, have passed at least two years in a program to obtain the official title of any of the specialties in Health Sciences.

Requirements for admission in DocTIC

Summary of the admission requirements:

  • The recommended entry profile is: Telecommunication Engineer, Master’s Degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Master’s Degree in Signal Theory and Communications, Master in Telematics Engineering, Master in Radio Communications and Electromagnetic Engineering, Master in Cybersecurity or Master in Computer Vision, all them from the University of Vigo.
  • For those students with national or foreign Master’s Degrees related to Information and Communication Technologies, their affinity will be considered by the Academic Committee of the PhD Programme. The skills of the Official Spanish Master in Telecommunication Engineering will be taken as reference. In these cases the Academic Committee may subject the admission to the successful completion of specific training complements that will be established in each case within the degree and master’s teaching offer in the field of ICTs from the University of Vigo.
  • As some compulsory activities will be taught in English, the accreditation of linguistic competence in this language (B1 level) is a requirement, by means of a certificate from the “Centro de Linguas” (Language Centre) or equivalent. Alternatively you may prove that English is your mother tongue or that your followed your Degree or Master studies in English.
  • You will need a pre- research plan signed by any of the supervisors in the DocTIC programme. Check the research lines of the program here (or in atlanTTic) and contact one of the researchers to agree a research topic and pre- research plan for your PhD.

  • Degree and Master titles
  • Degree and Master academic records
  • Accreditation of linguistic competence in English  (B1 level)  by means of a certificate from the “Centro de Linguas” (Language Centre) or equivalent. Alternatively you may prove that English is your mother tongue or that your followed your Degree or Master studies in English.
  • A letter signed by one of the DocTIC supervisors with the proposed research topic and a short description of the research activities.
